Camp as Community Outreach

Summer is a good time for reflection and renewal — personally and together as members in the body of Christ. Summer also presents a great opportunity for outreach to our community.

This year, we are excited about hosting Zion’s first Summer Day Camp. We heard about the Outreach Day Camp offered by LOMO (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries of Ohio) now, HopeWood Outdoors, and partnered with them for a wonderful week exploring the theme “Boundless: God Beyond Measure” based on Ephesians 3:18-19. Each day expanded on the theme through Bible stories on God’s Goodness, Love, Welcome, Forgiveness, and Generosity.

We were very pleased with the excellent staff team which arrived on Sunday and has been leading worship, Discovery (small group Bible learning), crafts, games, and even a water fun day!

Zion members stepped up to graciously serve as hosts for the team and volunteers who prepared and served lunch and snacks. We also had a member who led a beautiful afternoon story time and faith conversation.

One of our invitational strategies is “go to where people are” instead of waiting for people to show up on Sundays. This Outreach Day Camp is an excellent opportunity to do just that!

God’s love is indeed boundless!
